We dug through many old photos and school projects. From the rubble, this newspaper clipping was found from 1989.

I had taken weekly art lessons from artist, Judy Garber. I entered the Earth Day Poster Contest and won my age bracket! The poster was a frog sitting on a lily pad. He was surrounded by garbage. The tagline “Hop to it, recycle.” Was this was the start of my graphic design career?

Recently, I had a great opportunity to help judge Healing Through the Arts exhibit! Healing with the Arts is a non-profit that collects high school artwork (in the surrounding school districts) and selects a  few pieces that will be hung in local hospitals and doctor offices. The winners have been chosen because they visually inspire, intrigue, smooth,  would cheer up the patient or the patient’s family. This temporarily or momentary moment that the viewer is interacting with the piece, they are not thinking about their illness or family member’s illness. This year they had 80+ amazing entries. Photography, paintings, graphic design, collage are just a few of the mediums that we had to chose from. I loved the 2nd place winner (pictured in post.) This was great example of giving hope and joy to someone in the hospital.

Want to get involved? Hope & Healing Art Show Reception, Award Ceremony and Silent Auction is coming up on April 5th. Please join us to celebrate the amazing student art work, all created around the message of Hope & Healing. All art is donated to local hospitals and healthcare facilities for patient rooms and treatment areas.

We will be honoring the students and hosting a Silent Auction so we can continue providing amazing and inspiring artwork at no charge to local healthcare facilities.
